The bulbs of glubul are succulent vegetables and a rich source of water. Because of their natural sugar, they are a favourite amongst many people. Their leaves, however, have a very horrible flavour.

A barenik appears similar to a glubul, but is larger, firmer, has a more obvious skin with a powder texture, and is darker. It has a much more savory and earthy flavour.
