Sir William Macelle

William Macelle was born in Vesht, in Trelinia, in the year 3565BD, and led an ordinary life until he was eleven years old. His father was a shoemaker and his mother was a cook in the town's most popular tavern. He was known for being manically rowdy with boys his own age, yet utterly polite towards girls. Stranger yet, he had always had a fascination with knights, and treated any older male with a knightly title with kingly respect, titling them "sir" constantly.

In 3554BD, William and his younger sister Erin were mistakenly involved in a raid of knights searching for a traiterous knight called Sir Harisan. That very knight had been found unconscious some days prior by William's father. When the knights came to the home to search for Harisan, Mr Macelle denied them access, but they cut down him and his wife and proceeded to search the house. Aware of the situation, Harisan was upstairs, with no recollection of who he was save his own name, and in desperation he helped the children escape and the three of them rode away in a storm into the night. The knights soon gave chase but were lost once they entered the thick Woodridge forest nearby. After much aimless trotting, they came to Miriand Chapel, long-abandoned, and hid there for several weeks, surviving on their own. Harisan and the two siblings became friends; he taught William how to use a sword and taught Erin how to cook, as they both requested.
Above, William Macelle: a simple boy who defeated Lord Katahedra through sheer courage and skill.

However, the chapel itself held a key to Harisan's past actions (they stayed in the manse) and it was eventually revealed that Harisan was indeed a traitor. William discovered what Harisan had done, and he took his sister and the horse and they ran back to find officials. When they returned to the chapel with a troop of knights, though, Harisan was nowhere to be found.

In 3553BD, a paladin from Duracia came to offer William a life of knighthood, by direct order of the god Nikina. William was incredibly eager to become a knight and had already been taught to use a sword thanks to Sir Harisan. William was taken to Duracia and spent the next eight years developing many battle and survival-related skills. Sir William Macelle was appointed paladin status under the order of Nikina and was then sent into the war-torn province of Belynsia with six other highly-trained Duracian knights, including the paladin who first found him. He helped win Katahedra's War and became one of the most famous knights in history thereafter.

After funding the building of the Belynsia Mausoleum, William returned to a life of knightly service, and lived another 150-odd years before falling at the hands of an ordinary brigand armed with a simple dagger during a raid on a remote house in Yele Heights, near Yele. Upon discovering who he had slain, the brigand proceeded to sell the dagger for an enormous sum of gold, only to have his life stolen in the night by an assassin. This happened in 3394BD, on the 19th of Rapucius. William's money went to his sister, Erin, and she lived off it without making any huge expenditures.
