The Man Wolf

Very little is known about the origins and history of the Gruitin, more commonly called a werewolf. However, a great deal have observed their nature and it is common to be werewolf-savvy. They have been sighted for thousands of years and there is evidence that they have been around near the time of the first humans. It is not believed they derive from any superior hybrid race, such as Sirins or Modeoa.

Appearance and Nature

The most important thing about werewolves is that they can and will attack anyone and anything. No non-werewolf being is safe from a pack of Gruitin (excluding Sirins) -- no matter how well armed they are or what magic they possess. Werewolves don't just kill for food. They can kill to defend their territory or to defend themselves if they feel threatened. They are quite savage and rarely attack and then run unless they are solitary. They are able to live in complete harmony with other canine creatures and don't bother many other animals... unless they're hungry.

They live in groves and caves all around Huirnon and some of North Tasif -- occasionally even Temanea -- in packs with the strongest male and female being the leaders. They are able to speak English but often use the growls and howls that wolves do instead. Parents will take care of their young until they are strong enough to feed themselves, and then they become independent, not from the pack, but in the sense that they no longer require care. Werewolf packs rarely stray from their own territory and don't find pleasure in purposefully entering human places and attacking anyone. They also tend to avoid other werewolf clans, but dangerous battles can ensue if there is a serious disagreement. They will eat any kind of meat, including humans.

Gruitin wield no weapons and the best way to describe the way they fight is just killing. They use their powerful jaws and teeth and aim for the target's neck and sides, as wolves do. They will also use their sharp claws to fend off and/or grapple the target. Also like wolves, they hunt in packs and attack from all sides, often circling their prey. They are considered one of the most savage and uncivilised of the hybrid races and are often avoided at all costs. A single werewolf is not likely to kill a human unless it feels it has no other choice. If there is a chance to run and avoid harm, it will likely make that choice.

In Huirnon, werewolves are often captured and sold off as slaves. Though only brave and rich people hire werewolf slaves, it's not as dangerous as most people think. They're often captured when they're young -- before their parents can have too much of an influence of them -- and raised to do as told. Of course, as slaves, they are nary educated properly, and they're also rarely kept once they enter adulthood. It's around this time that the werewolf instincts kick in on their own, so it becomes more dangerous. Many a rich household in the larger Huirnon towns as a werewolf slave. In anywhere else in Central, it's illegal.

Despite their very wolf-like head, they are relatively human in appearance. They are covered with fur and have a wolf Tail, much like Sirins, and their claws are sharp and black. They sometimes have patterns in their fur like wolves, but this is usually subtle. Most werewolves range from brown to grey in colour. Their eyes are generally warm colours: from greyish purples, through to reds and brownish ochers, oranges, and sometimes more golden or straw yellows. Werewolves often don themselves in loincloths or similar, sometimes decorating it with paints and other similar material to show their rank in the pack. Despite their normally feral nature, a pack of wolves often takes time to celebrate any great success (such as a large during the day by gathering around a fire. It's not clearly known how werewolves celebrate, but they have been seen sharing chunks of meat and drinking water out of bowls they share around. There are many people who are trying to look into the nature of werewolves, but it's quite dangerous.
