HistoryUnfortunately, scientific communication with Karithians is rare. They are very vicious towards other races and every attempt at drawing information from their few translators has been unsuccessful. It is estimated that Karithians were created between 700-1000BD by an Odanon known as "Yorg'vim", though in their language it is transliterated to Jaugevim. Jaugevim is also their leader, and he resides in Kvoch Natkun at the northern end of South Nidonn. They have numerous stone towns and cities scattered throughout this desert, and those who have studied them say that the Karithian lifestyle revolves around two things -- protection of their land and trading resources with one another -- the two most basic survival skills. It is thought that they have been like this since they were born. When the humans came to East Riiga about 3000 years before Karithians came into being, the humans stayed out of the desert because it was just too harsh, and Nikina also warned them about going there. When the Karithians were created, humans soon noticed these new species. The Karithians, in their primitive ways, made aggressive moves towards the humans. Phedailin was often raided by the desert brutes, though they never aimed to eliminate humans. They simply wanted to warn them to stay away, and the humans did so for a very long time. Desert StormUnder the rule of King Ahartui (266AL - 752AL), an army of soldiers from Phedailin, Laurondirin, and Jevithem marched against Kvoch Natkun across the desert. At this time, Ahartui was sick of the constant Karithian invasions, and he and his troops planned to end them. It is said that the army peaked 3000 men, but it was to no avail. Though they killed many Karithians and did some damage to the mighty fortress, they were eventually attacked by Jaugevim's elite force. The humans were no match for them. Some ran immediately back to North Nidonn. Those that didn't, died. Ahartui was one of these that was slain, though he was slain after a difficult battle between him and Jaugevim himself. Those that arrived back say that Ahartui managed to break one of Jaugevim's horns before being killed. This event in 752AL was called Desert Storm. After this, both humans and Karithians associated with one another less. Jaugevim issued far less and far weaker attacks and the humans never ventured into the desert. AppearanceThe Karithians are another very strong hybrid race. It is not clear what animal they are based on. They somewhat resemble bison or buffaloes, though they do naturally grow armoured plates over their bodies. Almost all Karithians wear lots of large robes, usually tattered and frayed from their lifestyle, despite the constant heat. They fight with clubs, axes, and bows, much like Cullashin do. They are an aggressive race but their territoriality and lack of ability to survive in other climates forces them to remain within their own desert in South Nidonn. They are often hunched over and they walk in a sort of shuffle. Despite this, they run in a powered charge, and it's never wise to stand in the way.All Karithians have horns which come in many shapes and sizes, including straight long horns, spiraled, curved, jagged, rough, and more. It is not uncommon for Karithians to have more than two horns, even up to six horns. Females more often than not have two horns which are usually short. It is rare to have a female Karithian with four horns and is not known wether they are capable of six. Though they can use their horns in battle, most do not, because it is a shame to break one's horns. A Karithian warrior that has lost all his or her horns, however, is often a tactician, advisor, or similar. Some Karithians tend to their horns often, and harden them by eating certain types of meat. These are distinguished by their bands of metal around their large horns, and are feared in battle. MagicKarithians also use shamans in battle as another fighting style. Some Karithians are endowed with magical abilities and they carry bones and feathers on sticks. Upon shaking their staffs almost any enemy could find him or herself in dire danger. These shamans are capable of wielding powerful magic and some, just more useful spells. They can do a range of things, such as repair objects that have been broken, to changing the temperature of an object. Even altering the form of an object is indeed possible, but only by more experienced shamans. It is said that Jaugevim is the source of this magic, the creator of it, the one who makes it possible to do these things. |
