History

Back before the year 893AL, the Truebloods were the ones who lived where Hluff -- the hometown of the Sirins -- is now. The Truebloods were a rich, strong, and proud race. Of course, humans were naturally jealous and feared them. There was little to no communication between the two. Back then, The Guards was a very peace-by-order faction and it's Central-wide adventurous nature forced the humans to venture further north bit by bit, until some dared venture into where the Truebloods live. When the humans saw what riches the Truebloods held, their jealousy sweltered. The soldiers that were situated at Fabia acted on their own accord, and raided the Trueblood village in the year 893AL.

The Genocide

This became known as The Genocide. Truebloods were not prepared for this. Many were slaughtered and those forced into slavery killed themselves. They were far too proud a race to allow themselves to be put below humans. During this battle, some of the Truebloods - including their leader - fled westward and prayed to Leuvana for aid. Through her compassion, they were granted access across the treacherous waters there. Because no humans travel these waters, it is said that to the present day they hide somewhere out there in the unforgiving cold of the north.

The Truebloods that refused to flee stayed and protected the village. Many paid with their lives to protect their families. However, after a turn of unforeseeable events, the Truebloods who stayed behind drove the humans back, but the humans managed to take with them almost all of the treasure the Truebloods were holding at the time.

Because their leader, Father Enkhaedis, fled west, not because he was a coward, but rather out of his will to keep his people alive, the Truebloods who remained behind no longer had a source for the magic that was sacred to the Truebloods. They lost the the true blood that flowed through their veins, and became a lesser race now known as Sirins. Sirins do not use magic, they do not hoard treasure, they do not build fantastic stone structures, and they like neither humans nor Truebloods, though they do protect the whereabouts of their ancestors hiding in Tlenrian palace, known only to them.

Sirins are considered theives, mainly because they are -- especially the young ones. Ever since, foolish and brave Sirin youths alike travel to Fabia and slowly try to steal the treasures that are scattered all over the fortified town piece by piece. Some unfortunately perish in their attempts, some are followed back by soldiers ready to draw blood, who are then forced to retreat by powerful and fearless Sirin guards, and some are successful. Though the Sirin elders frown upon all who try to steal the riches, it was initially theirs, and that is their justification for not giving it back when the humans ask - either by peaceful word or by force. This lifestyle has been in a loop for over two hundred years and nobody is predicting it will end anytime soon.

Elders

Sirins are always led by Elders, who are elected while the current elders are alive. Currently, they are two elders; Rece and Tlar. It's not known who they have elected for their next elder. This would be written on the Elder Scroll. Below is a list of all past Sirin elders.
  • Koum (894AL - 918) 24 years
  • Cier (919 - 930) 11 years
  • Laru (930 - 955) 25 years
  • Rren (956 - 971) 15 years
  • Luto (971 - 998) 27 years

  • Raan (1022 - 1040) 18 years

Appearance and Nature

The ones who remained behind in 893BD no longer gained the blessing granted by their worship rituals and so resulted in the Sirins seen today. They look like people but are covered head to toe in short brown fur, have red-orange hair, blue eyes, and as well as this they have small fangs, claws, and a bushy tail. Most Sirins can use either a sword or a spear and are very athletic and fast. They usually wear the traditional tiger stripe open jacket as well as green or blue clothes. Some Sirins practice ice magic. They also have an immune system that's said to be five times stronger than that of the average human. Sirins grow faster than humans. Studies have shown that they grow 25% faster, and as such, they die younger. It's rare for a Sirin to live over 40 years of age.

The number of tattoos/stripes Sirins paint on a newborn is decided by a special ritual performed by the current elder. The exact actions of the ritual aren't exactly known, but it is known that the elder reads the stars on that night and paints a number of stripes according to how many and which stars are visible. The tattoos affect the fate of that Sirin, and generally, more stripes means a better destiny. A Sirin with no stripes has no future, and likewise, a Sirin with an irregular pattern is not recognised or welcomed in Hluff. Most Sirins have two to four. Nari has eight. Tlar, one of the elders, has over twenty stripes. The stripes are repainted every five years by the elder.

Sirin adults are cold towards humans, and Sirin children often inherit this. It is extremely rare a Sirin child to disobey an elder, and it is believed this trait was inherited from their Trueblood ancestors. Most Sirins are uncaring towards all other races, including Truebloods, though the elders are usually more kind, depending on circumstances. Though they are somewhat hostile, they are not unreasonable people, and always enjoy a good bargain.

Some of the Sirins:

Rece

Born in 1153AL
Rece is a favoured elder throughout Hluff. He always seems to be calm and in control, and has never been seen to lose his temper. He fights with a slender sword quite well and the notion of Sirin elders is a fearful thought throughout Fabia. As well as this, Rece is kind and considerate. If it weren't for his disease where he is unable to speak, he would be the only elder. He suffers from demimute.

Tlar

Born in 1150AL
When the Sirins of Hluff found out there new elder, Rece, would have random episodes of muteness, they elected Tlar to be a kind of secondary elder. Tlar is a very strong and brash Sirin and can fight well both unarmed and armed with a blade or heavy spear. Though not as level-headed as Rece, he is quite intelligent and doesn't fool for false displays. There are weak rumours that Rece and Tlar are brothers, but this is unsupported.

Nari

Born in 1168AL
Nari is a young, proud, loud Sirin, who had a large impact on his people when he once stole something very valuable from Fabia. Normally when young Sirins steal back the treasure of their ancestors, some humans would chase them into Hluff but be driven back by fierce Sirins guards. When Nari stole an emblem of Fabia by accident, a large troop marched to Hluff and in a rage they killed three innocent Sirins before Rece and Tlar had to kill the human guards themselves. Since this incident, Nari hasn't stolen anything from Fabia.

He has never known his parents and he lives with a kind couple, as he has been doing all his life. He often gets grounded by them and ends up reading history books in his room, which is his favourite hobby. He doesn't to tell people about it. He is also very clumsy with spears, which is shameful for a Sirin male. Despite all this, Rece thinks there is something very important in Nari's future.

Tern

Born in 1165AL
When the Sirins of Hluff found out that a young boy named Tern was not a true Sirin, but was in fact half-Trueblood and half-Sirin, he was exiled from Hluff. Tern has six stripes and he is a very quiet and he spends time all over north Huirnon. Nobody seems to know who Tern's parents are, or why he was granted so many stripes at birth when he was supposed to be worthless. Nobody even quite remembers Tern's tattoo ceremony at his birth, as elder Dran has passed away and was not there to speak of what happened.

Aran

Born in 1164AL
Aran is Nari's best friend and an athletic and strong young man, skilled with a spear, and respected among the Sirin men, though they don't like him spending time with Nari. Aran is one of the few people who understand Nari's plight. He is Lara's brother and they live with their mother.

Lara

Born in 1167AL
Lara is Nari's other best friend and she is a kind and gentle girl who practices ice magic. Sirin adults worry about her and her brother spending time with Nari, as the boy is supposedly a bad influence and no good for their future. She lives with her brother, Aran, and their mother. Their father was killed by the guards who chased Nari after he stole the emblem from Fabia.
