People of the KingdomThe human empire of the East involves two main factions, as such. They are the people of North Nidonn and the people of Estall Bay. North Nidonn houses the greatest kings, and the most religious and noble orders in Riiga. Estall Bay is home to pirates.HistoryIn the year 3809BD, humans from Central set out toward the east to discover new lands. This band consisted of many adventurers, a dozen or so large families, some men of trade, but no people with divine blood or Hireos. They came across a country now known as Nidonn and came ashore at the western end of what is now Leotyne. The hundred or so travellers trekked east across the rocky plains, came into a large valley with a giant lake, and then headed south towards a large structure -- all over the course of seven years. Along the way, they set up many camps and tried to found settlements, but they did not work out for numerous reasons. These were the first humans of the East.In 3802, when hope was a mere sliver, scouts saw a structure and everyone gathered around it. This structure was one of the four temples known as Hunnuklad, and a high priest known as Father Duosol encouraged everyone to take shelter in it. In fact, before he came to Nidonn, Duosol was not a priest. He was an ordinary man who took it upon himself to lead the people. It was only after the creation of the Order of Dualkedor that he was given this grand title. Indeed, Hunnuklad was both a temple and a sanctuary from harm. It wasn't long before Nikina himself came to Duosol in one of the more ambiguous rooms of the temple. Nikina told the high priest to tell everyone else to build a city, and Nikina would grant whoever they chose as their king an extended life. Ecstatic, Duosol passed on what he had heard to the residents of the temple, and they set out immediately to build a large city around this temple. Nikina guided the workers to the best sources of stone, wood, metal, soil for crops, and fresh water, and by the next year, the formations of the city had been laid, and this place was named Phedailin. Now, Phedailin remains more or less as it had been when it was completed in 3790BD. It is a city of pale stone surrounded by high walls, three gates to the north, east, and south, and a grand palace at the western edge of the city that housed the chosen king, his family, and his subjects. The population steadily grew as the city did, but five years before the completion of the city, a new order of knights was born in order to protect the people from a threat that had been spotted to the south and west. The Knights of Phedailin were a disciplined order of strong knights clad in blue and gold. A hundred or so years later, it was decided that, for the safety of the country, castles should be built around and there should be borders and sub-orders of knights. Also, another order was created to protect the temple itself and this order also consisted of priests and the like. Duosol led this order, known as the Order of Dualkedor. And so it was that in 3649BD, Jevithem Castle -- city of blue-grey soldiers -- was founded in the valley with the great lake. In 3608BD, another family went back to the rocky area they first came to all those years ago, and atop a plateau they founded Leotyne Castle -- city of green defense. In 3575BD, a third family travelled north of Jevithem and settled in another valley by the sea, with a forest at the western end. In this place they started Trelinia Castle (not to be confused with Trelinia in the west) -- city of golden arrows. In 3549BD, a fourth and final family went past Jevithem, past Trelinia, and north through a steep mountain path to come to a land of red sand that met the sea at its northern end. In this vast field they started Laurondirin Castle -- city of red armour. Nobody ever ventured far south, for that was where the Karithians lived. The PiratesIn the year 341AH, a band of mercenaries from Laurondirin sailed north into Estall Bay. Though the bay was a common retreat for people from Laurondirin, these mercenaries set themselves up in an old fort atop sheer cliffs -- built by peoples unknown. This fort they named Fort Pyhuana and a mysterious man known as Arturo came forth as their leader. With seemingly no logical reason, they announced themselves pirates and strayed from Laurondirin's culture and wreaked such havoc upon the sea there that Laurondirin's people began to keep to the land. The pirates didn't actually go near to Laurondirin, so both sides left one another alone as a sort of mutual ceasefire. Nevertheless, Arturo's pirate force grew considerably, and they set up towns on the west side of the bay where Fort Pyhuana was. Many say that Arturo is not human, as he has been alive for so long, but he is not recognised as a Hireos or Odanon so little more is known about him. It is known that he plants ideas of greed and promised wealth into the minds of his followers, though. He's as ruthless as they get, they say.Two years later, an old man that called himself Captain Tyron brought a separate band of mercenaries (this time more respectable) and they discovered another fort with mighty watchtowers on the east side of the bay. Tyron called this fortress Fort Shbel and they hid hear, slowly growing in numbers, though it was no secret that they planned to overthrew Arturo and his force. When Tyron had a considerable force of men and ships, he set sail westward to defeat Arturo. They were forced back out into the sea after a near-crushing defeat, but on the other hand, Arturo's assaults on Shbel failed just as miserably. Even to this day, both sides of the bay wage battles against one another, and there are at least a dozen towns spread over both sides of the bay. Over time, more and more people sailed up from Laurondirin, seeking a more adventurous life (though Laurondirin's population was still far from small). Both sides of the bay are rich in resources and covered in dense jungles and breathtaking cliffs, as well as vast and sparkling seas. Captain Latrell has since taken Tyron's place as leader of the east pirates. NaturePeople of the east are loyal, often religious, and adventure-loving. As North Nidonn is the only country to be divided into specific kingdoms with borders and individual leaders all under a single king, it is seen as the most orderly place in Riiga. As such, most Easterners enjoy order, though the country has had its fare share of wars amongst itself, Karithians, and pirates. The Knights of Phedailin and all sub-orders are held in very high regard amongst commoners, and overall, all factions get along well. Most people enjoy their normal lives of either being a soldier or a citizen, and there are also many local and traveling merchants. |
