Stelake, Land of the Lakes

At the western end of Huirnon is a small province tucked between mountains and seas. Stelake lies between the Dunin Mountains, the Ellecil Mountains, and the very northeastern corner of the Ambelia Ocean. The province of Stelake boasts several border towns, several unique lakes, and a dense, frozen wood. For those who travel from Maharaba to Cenarta, Stelake proves to be the sensible choice, as the only other option is to trek over the Dunin Mountains. North of Mael's Woods is Maela Cove. It was once used by pirates, but as the cold from the north drifted southward into the cove, it became dangerous to sail through, as it would often unexpectedly freeze over. Salloten River marks part of the southern border, and it flows across Stelake's southern end. At the northern border, two outposts keep watch for anything dangerous which may wander in from the northern wastes.

Stelake's four lakes; Meniz, Traen, Seretaye, and Mahubra, are believed to be ancient -- so ancient that their deep, chilly waters are filled with rare freshwater crustaceans, the likes of which cannot be found anywhere else. Their waters are surrounded by villages of "crab-divers" with countless generations of training and tradition under their belts; they catch the creatures and then they sell them to nearby towns, namely Ciliset and Harasinar. This is Stelake's unique trade.

Mael's Woods are at the northwestern end of Stelake. These evergreen woods are thought to be just as old as the lakes, as deep beneath the frozen filth and icy timber there are remnants of old and peculiar critters, seemingly similar to that which lurks at the bottom of the lakes. Many an aspiring scientist has travelled into Mael's Woods to gather samples and study the remains of these creatures. In 910BD, a particuarly selfish scientist by the name of Sorabann hired a team of mercenaries and a team of gatherers. He had the mercenaries threaten and attack those already in the woods, and he had the gatherers collect all the samples they could find. Such was the retaliation from the nearby communities that they raided and burnt Sorabann's manor, burning all the samples within. Now, samples from Mael's Woods are considered to be extremely rare and valuable and master assassins and marauder lords have their dwellings deep within.

Harasinar

Stelake's only city is small compared to ones to the south and east, but Harasinar is still the province's pride and joy. Experienced hunters from the lakes to the north bring rare crustaceans to sell in the city's markets. There are many places to eat these crustaceans in Harasinar. These meals are considered to be delicacies and are very expensive. The position of the city may seem slightly illogical -- it is situated some way south from all the lakes -- however, the largest lake was once just west of Harasinar, but it dried up a few thousand years ago, around 3800BD. Harasin Lake contained the largest crustaceans, but these species are believed to have been hunted to extinction a long time ago.

Ciliset

The largest lakeside hunting village is actually more of a town. Ciliset is directly west of Traen Lake which is against the eastern border. There is a large empty shrine in Ciliset which is thought to be the only remnant of an old and lost religion which worshipped the crustaceans at the bottom of the lakes. They particularly worshipped a giant creature thought to live at the bottom of Traen Lake, deep in an underwater cavern, far too deep, dark, and cold to swim into.
