Trelinia, Land of Gold

Trelinia is the kingdom which prides itself on possessing large amounts of gold, due to the gold mines in the Juan Mountains, in the northwestern corner of Trelinia. The kingdom itself was named after Sage Carson's mother, Lady Trelinia. Half fields and half forest, Trelinia is the northwestern and second smallest kingdom of North Nidonn. The forest is known as Woodridge, and the fields are called the Labaster Fields. On its east sits the Yrth Mountains and to the south is the Leren Range. Between these two mountain ranges, in the southeast corner of the kingdom, is the only safe land entrance.

Trelinia also has two shorelines, but both are difficult to reach with a large ship. The western shore is actually part of the Kaetin Channel, and is called Kaetin Bay. This channel is the gap between Trelinia and a large island called Juan Island, just off Trelinia's west coast. The northeastern shore is a similar circumstance. The island that creates the channel between Trelinia and itself is known as Gold Island, and the channel is called Gold Channel. Oddly enough, the bay is known as Gold Bay. Trelinia Castle has a port in Gold Bay.

Trelinia Castle

Although Trelinia Castle is not made of gold, nor is it even plated or coated in gold, its pale stone and yellow and orange flags sometimes give such an illusion in the burning evening sun. Lord Gabriel was announced as the ruler of Trelinia's fields and forests in 3575BD. Construction of the castle was underway within the next year. The castle itself has roughly three walls; one against the sea, one against the mountainside, and one facing the open fields. The seaside wall overlooks a large port area, though it is mostly used by fishermen, as there was always very little naval warfare in North Nidonn. This wall has a small gate. The mountain wall is not actually a wall. Instead, the buildings there are built against the mountain. The keep itself rests on a large network of hallways that were carved into the stone. The many dozens of towers of Trelinia Castle are very tall and pointed, with elaborate decorations on all the rooftops. The wall that faces the fields has a large gate. The path that leads to it winds up a gentle slope.

On the inside, the walls appear to be a dull and old gold, but they still hold a certain brilliance in natural light. Just as the castle is armed with many towers on the outside, the ceiling of every room tapers up into a sharp point, giving the impression that the roooms are taller than they actually are. On the exteriors, tapestries and flags are yellow and orange, but inside the castle, cloth is maroon and the mood is much more sombre. Very few ornaments and metal objects are gold. In fact, they prefer to use a sort of false or imitation gold which is truly cheap but looks almost the same, save it being significantly lighter.

Fort Arrowhed

Trelinia's primary fortress is just north of the entrance to the province. It is known as Fort Arrowhed, and has a massive archery range attached to it. Like the castle, it has many towers and pinnacles, and has the same pale and glistening appearance. This fort, unlike many others in North Nidonn, also has a moat. It is joined by a river that comes from the Leren Range to the south. Because Trelinia's military focuses on archery, there are many small windows on the fortress and they are diligent about keeping watch. Most kingdoms divide their paladins beetween a single fortress and a castle, with one in the former and two in the latter, but Trelinia has two fortresses, so the paladins are completely separated from one another. The province's watchtower, Gold Tower, is to the south of the keep, hugging a mountainside.

Sedr Keep

The third paladin of Trelinia governs Sedr Keep. It is a large fortress hidden deep within Woodridge, and it is off limits to civilians and non-Trelinian soldiers. Trelinian archers are trained in and around this fortress, and that is what it was made for. The thick surrounding woods and large courtyards full of stairs and towers make it challenging for any archer to gain a clean shot on one of the many designated targets. Nevertheless, this ensures that all Trelinian archers are accustomed to firing both in open spaces and in tighter areas where moving is difficult and sight is restricted. Of course, foot soldiers are trained here, too. Little is known about the appearance or workings of the keep, as nobody is allowed near it. It is patrolled heavily. It is because of places like this that Trelinia is considered the most paranoid and secretive kingdom.

Nukvan

Trelinia's largest city, Nukvan, is situated right north of Fort Arohed. It is bustling, well-defended, prosperous, and inviting. Many market districts exist within Nukvan, and there are countless crops around its intricate walls. In the city square is a display of fountains which pour from a small scale statue inspired by the fortresses of Trelinia. Due to its prosperity, Nukvan is also considered to be a kind of playground for wealthy men of business, and this has brought about problems with crime in the past. Smugglers once swarmed through Nukvan's underground sewers at night, but the recent new guard protocols, have eliminated this problem almost entirely.

Belynsia Mausoleum

This majestic tomb holds every body officials could recover from Katahedra's War. Most of the bodies are of Belynsian citizens, but many are knights who died during the war, both from Belynsia and from the other provinces. Sir William is said to have concealed the spear Rushnukvan deep within this tomb in a vault, but it is not clear whether it is this particular tomb, or another hidden one somewhere else. It is north of Sedr Keep and it extends some way under the ground in a network of passageways. There are many thousand bodies kept within.

Vesht

Vesht is a city in the middle-north of Trelinia, against Woodridge. The houses and buildings are mostly timber, as the city is arguably the best place in North Nidonn to purchase good quality wood. Vesht boasts a range of good businesses, from smiths to tanners to fletchers and cobblers, and also has numerous taverns. The people of Vesht consider themselves carefree; their lives mostly involve simply making a living. The town is shaped around a central square with five streets pointing off like a star. One leads roughly to the castle and Gold Bay, one leads to the road that skirts along the edge of Woodridge, one leads into Woodridge, one leads into the mountains, and one leads straight out into the fields. There are also many famous furniture makers in Vesht. It is the birthplace of the famous William Macelle, who defeated Lord Katahedra of Belynsia.

Naekyn

Naekyn is the largest farming town in Trelinia. In some respects, it's similar to Entaro in Phedailin. It is known for its fresh produce and vast surrounding farms, and also for its wineries. The area is hily, as it is quite near to the Yrth Mountains, and a little colder than the rest of Trelinia, but like the rest of the kingdom, it is quite sheltered from strong winds. Nearby is a network of mines once filled with gold, but the tunnels have been abandoned for a very long time; the area is sealed off. Bandits are thought to hide in these mines, though.
