Jindiara's Jungles

The most dangerous predator in the jungle is undoubtedly the riixaldor, the biggest species being the Grandoise variant. Beneath that are many larger carnivores, such as the runtan and jaguar -- both feline predators -- the giant gorugana serpent, and the evora apes and black and huim bears from the forests to the south do often wander deep into the jungle for food. Each one is dangerous, capable of killing and/or devouring a human.

Even the plantlife is potentially harmful. The largest such species are the epzeab, with things like hamexia vines, coatl thorns, and rereso or maarl shrubs coming close behind. Hamexia vines hang from the canopy and are covered with thorns, most of which are barbed. Birds fly into them and are caught, and the plant absorbs the blood through the barbs to feed itself. Coatl thorns are where coatl birds live, and are also spiky, but each coatl thorn contains a toxin which usually causes a victim to fall ill. It's considered a mesotoxin. Rereso and maarl shrubs are both similar; they are large and bushy, with twisted, far-reaching branches bearing wide leaves that hang down. Rereso have red spots under their leaves and maarl have yellow spots. It's not known exactly what happens, but touching either colour spot also causes one to fall ill, but it's known to be more dangerous than the toxin on coatl thorns.

Some of the birds are also dangerous. Maroro are small carnivorous birds who scavenge, but they have been known to flock on small animals, penetrating with their beak and claws, to kill something to eat it. They are known for their bat-like, shrill, rapid calls when they are excited. Horunfa are large waterbirds who usually feed on fish but their large beaks make lethal weapons if they feel threatened; they are very territorial and will attack, chase, and try to kill whatever upsets them. When upset, they bellow a warning call, low and loud, and then give chase. There are the moderately-sized vulture-like pzenetx which also scavenge, but are not so violent towards living animals as maroro. They will, however, defend themselves fiercely.

In the air, on trees, on the ground, and in the water, are insects. There are numerous kinds of carnivorous beetles which penetrate the flesh of sleeping animals, thinking they are dead, and begin to devour them. Of course, the pain is noticable and the victim usually wakes up. These beetles normally scavenge. Several species of flying insects also live here, such as the tolfo. Some are as aggressive as the worst kinds of wasps, and have a powerful sting and attack mercilessly. Their hives, hung high in the canopy above, sometimes unfortunately drop down, and the tolfo scatter in a violent frenzy. Several species of poisonous spiders, scorpions, moths, grasshoppers, flies, wasps, caterpillars, and beetles, and non-poisonous but still dangerous species of ants, bugs, mantids, and grubs live in the jungle.

On top of this, there are carnivious and dangerous reptiles, amphibians, fish, and even crustaceans in and around the water.
